This year the CDC is recommending 2 doses of the  influenza vaccine for children 6 months- 8 years old.  These doses are administered four weeks apart for children ages 6 months – 8 years during their first season of vaccination.  This is done to optimize their immune response.   Administering the vaccine this way increases the generated protective antibody response. Vaccinations should be given before the onset of influenza activity in your community so that it allows adequate time for your body to produce protective antibody levels.
